Sign in to report an errorSpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
REGULATORY LEGAL COUNSEL
As Regulatory Legal Counsel, EMEA, you will advise on platform, AI and digital regulation that shapes how X, Grok and other SpaceXSI products are built and operated across Europe, the UK, the Middle East and Africa. Europe and the UK have some of the most demanding and actively enforced regulatory regimes we face, including the EU Digital Services Act, the UK Online Safety Act and the EU AI Act. You will turn complex obligations into clear, practical advice and implementation plans, and work hand in hand with Safety, Product, Engineering, Policy, Compliance and our other Legal teams to deliver them.
This role is for someone who enjoys being close to how products actually work, can move quickly between legal analysis and practical implementation, and is comfortable engaging with regulators.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise on implementation and compliance with EU, UK and other EMEA digital regulations, with a focus on the EU AI Act, Digital Services Act (DSA), the UK Online Safety Act (OSA), the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) and national implementations such as Ireland's Online Safety Code, and of the eCommerce Directive
Support regulatory engagement and investigations with the European Commission, the EU AI Office, Ofcom, Coimisiún na Meán and other regulators, including requests for information, risk assessments, audits, consultations, transparency reporting and enforcement proceedings
Work cross-functionally with Safety, Product and Engineering to assess new features and AI products against regulatory requirements, including systemic risk and illegal content risk assessments, age assurance and protection of minors, content moderation and user reporting flows, advertising transparency, researcher data access, and AI transparency and labeling obligations
Track and analyze new legislation, codes of practice, guidelines and enforcement trends across EMEA, and explain what they mean for our products in clear, practical terms
Help build scalable processes, templates and playbooks for regulatory compliance and product review
Partner with Compliance, Product Counsel, Privacy, Litigation and Policy colleagues to keep positions consistent across jurisdictions and regulators
Manage outside counsel effectively and cost-consciously
Selflessly and generously support what is needed in the legal department, even if it is unfamiliar
Adopt daily use of our AI products to accelerate learning and optimize productivity
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified lawyer of good standing in the UK and/or EU
5+ years of legal experience in technology, platform, or digital regulation, at a top-tier law firm, in-house at a technology company, or at a regulator
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Strong working knowledge of the DSA and/or UK OSA; we don't expect every candidate to have deep experience in every framework listed above, but some combination thereof
Strong understanding of the legislative process and the technology industry
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in a succinct and impactful manner
Ability to work effectively with technical and non-legal teams and to understand how products work
Strong sense of ownership, sound judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Experience with the EU AI Act, AVMSD or Ireland's Online Safety Code
Experience responding to regulatory requests for information or investigations from the European Commission, Ofcom or Coimisiún na Meán
In-house or secondment experience at a social media, consumer platform or AI company
Familiarity with GDPR, consumer protection and advertising regulation
Contentious experience is a plus
Additional European languages are a plus
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Commitment to being in-office 5 days/week

X's (formerly Twitter's) European postings now route through xAI's own board and are concentrated in London and Dublin. Worth noting this is the merged X/xAI entity's hiring, not a standalone Twitter career site anymore.
