🚀 What WE do at Tendos
We are Tendos, a Munich-based startup, offering agentic workforce for white-collar jobs in construction. Our AI-first solution streamlines and automates tendering and quoting related workflows in the construction industry. Tendos is freeing inside sales teams from tedious manual tasks while unlocking new revenue potential. Take the unique opportunity and join one of the hottest early-stage start-ups to redefine workflows with AI in the biggest industry in the world!
🚀 The role
This is the first engineering management role at Tendos. You would lead the whole engineering team - today it reports directly to a founder. You report to our CTO and take over people management and delivery. The team builds with coding agents every day and ships 100+ releases a week. It is a high-functioning team: you are here to make a strong team stronger, not to turn one around.
🥇 What YOU will do at Tendos
Hold the team. You run the engineering meetings, you know where things stand, and you are genuinely close to every engineer.
Grow each engineer — technically and in their career. A specific plan per person that they have bought into, including for engineers who are technically deeper than you are.
Carry real weight in hiring. Define the missing profile, build the brief, run the process and make the call - including the no-hire call on someone who looks strong on paper.
Establish how an AI-first engineering team works. Coding agents have moved the bottleneck from writing code to review, testing and planning. You build the practices that fit that: where human review is needed, how we keep quality at 100+ releases a week, and how we plan when building is cheap. Lightweight, and designed with the team.
Make commitments predictable. Slips on customer work get flagged weeks ahead with options, rather than discovered at the deadline.
Stay in the work. You do not need to write production code daily, but you need to be in it often enough to hold a first-hand opinion about it.
💪🏼 What we are looking for
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team through its next phase. You will shape how the team grows and works as we build an agentic workforce for our customers' white-collar work in construction.
Five to seven years in software, at least two of them managing engineers at a SaaS product company.
You have managed engineers through a period of growth - and can say what broke. What stopped working at what size, and the smallest thing you did about it.
You have worked in a startup, in a high-autonomy, low-process environment. Our engineers make their own calls and move fast. A heavy-process background is the main way this role fails.
You grow people deliberately. Point at an engineer who can do something today they could not do before, and tell us what you actually did.
Technically credible. You can hold your own in an architecture discussion, and you can say what you shipped or debugged yourself in the last six months.
AI tools in your daily work today - not tried, used. Show us how they changed the way you work.
You want to learn how AI-first engineering works, and help the team do the same. Nobody has the playbook yet. You try things yourself, keep up with what changes, and help every engineer get more out of working with agents.
Munich, hybrid. The team is based in our Munich office and you are there with them regularly.
German is a plus.
❤️ Why you should join
We'll treat you well. If there are any other benefits that are important to you, we'd like to hear.
Competitive salary and equity — a competitive salary and meaningful equity in a growing, venture-backed startup.
Bring an established industry into the modern era - Rethinking RFQs in the construction industry with cutting edge technology
Ownership — You are the first manager this team has had, and you shape how it works and grows together with the founders.
Central Office — Work at our office in the heart of Munich (Königsplatz).
Team Culture — Regular team events, offsites, and a collaborative, transparent work environment where your voice is heard.
🤝 The Interview Process
At Tendos, we like to keep processes lean. That’s why our hiring process also follows a simple four-step-approach:
30-minute Get-to-know Call with a founder or a senior engineer. We talk about your background, what you are looking for and the basics of the role.
60-minute Remote Interview on how you hire, how you grow engineers and how you work yourself. We will ask you to show us how you use AI tools, so have something ready to share on screen.
On-site Day at our office in Munich, about three hours in total:
Decision and Offer: we come back to you with a decision and clarify the last contractual and administrative details.
📮 Interested to join the ride?
Drop us some lines along with your CV and a description of a team you took through a period of growth, as well as your desired start date directly to our founder: matthias@tendos.ai
At Tendos, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
