Software Engineer III, Android, Digital Wellbeing New

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. In this role, you will work with a team of Software Engineers to collaborate across functions and teams during prototyping, design, development and launch of new features. You will have the chance to design and write significant amounts of code to solve ambiguous problems in this rapidly evolving area, including key feature workflows end-to-end, product ambiguity, and clean, robust code across the application and system layers.

You will be able to actively shape the technical and product direction of Digital Well-being (1B+ devices) and the Android OS (3B+ devices). This role offers you plenty of opportunity for career growth as it includes work on high-visibility projects (often featured at I/O or The Android Show) and building strong relationships with partner stakeholders across Android and Pixel.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Develop intuitive, high-performance user experiences on a first-party app using Kotlin/Java and modern Android UI frameworks.

Integrate on-device ML and generative AI solutions to deliver proactive and delight user experiences.

Translate complex behavioral, psychological, and human challenges into intuitive, highly robust, and privacy-preserving system-level engineering solutions.

Collaborate deeply with global partners across UX Design, UX Research, Data Science, and Privacy. Work closely with core Android teams in the US and the Kids and Families team to deliver cohesive, platform-wide experiences.

Lead rapid prototyping, framework experiments, and technical architecture reviews during early-stage product exploration, steering ideas smoothly from concept through global ecosystem-wide launch.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

2 years of experience with Android application development.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.

2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
