About Chemify

Chemify is revolutionising chemistry. We are creating a future where the synthesis of previously unimaginable molecules, drugs, and materials is instantly accessible. By combining AI, robotics, and the world’s largest continually expanding database of chemical programs, we are accelerating chemical discovery to improve quality of life and extend the reach of humanity.

Our Chemifarm facility in Glasgow operates a growing fleet of advanced robotic systems that automate synthesis, optimisation, and library generation. This gives our computational scientists something rare: a direct, high-throughput bridge from in silico design to physically synthesised molecules, closing the design–make–test loop at a pace conventional drug discovery organisations cannot match.

Location: Glasgow, UK (on-site)

Travel: Minimal

The Role

We are seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to work across the boundaries of our robotic synthesis platform — where mechanics, electronics, and firmware meet. You will design and integrate the motion and actuation systems that physically carry out chemistry, taking subsystems from concept through prototyping to reliable operation, and making sure the disciplines come together into hardware that just works.

What sets this role apart is the breadth: you will live at the interface of mechanical, electronic, and software design, on a platform where all three combine to turn code into molecules.

If working across mechanics, electronics, and firmware on a real-world robotic platform sounds like the right shape of job for you, we’d love to welcome you to our team.

Key Responsibilities

Design and integrate mechatronic subsystems — motion, actuation, sensing — across mechanical, electronic, and firmware domains.

Select and integrate motors, drives, sensors, and actuators, and tune them for real-world performance.

Prototype, bring up, and test electromechanical systems, debugging across discipline boundaries.

Partner with mechanical, electronics, firmware, and controls engineers to deliver integrated modules.

Support characterisation, calibration, and reliability of motion and actuation systems.

Contribute to design reviews and cross-disciplinary standards.About You

You are a systems-minded engineer who is happiest where disciplines overlap. You can reason about a mechanism, the electronics that drive it, and the firmware that controls it, and you enjoy making them work together reliably in the real world.

We expect you to bring:

Proven, significant experience in mechatronics, robotics, or electromechanical systems engineering.

Working knowledge across at least two of: mechanical design, electronics, motion control, and embedded firmware.

Hands-on experience selecting and integrating motors, drives, sensors, and actuators.

Practical bring-up, testing, and debugging of electromechanical systems.

Comfort collaborating across mechanical, electronics, and firmware teams.Beneficial Skills

Motion / closed-loop control and controls tuning.

CAD and/or schematic-level electronics literacy.

Some embedded/firmware experience ([C/C++], [Python] for test).

Exposure to lab automation, precision instrumentation, or fluidic systems.

Why Join Chemify?

Impact. You make the disciplines come together — the integrated systems you build are what turn our platform’s code into physical motion and chemistry.

Autonomy. You will own mechatronic integration across the platform.

Ambition. We are a Series B deep-tech company at the frontier of chemistry, robotics, and AI — with the resources and mandate to work across the full electromechanical stack on a platform unlike anything else.

About Chemify

Chemify is turning chemistry into code: molecules described in a programming language and then made by a robotic 'Chemifarm' rather than by hand. Spun out of the University of Glasgow, where the lab and most of the roles still are, on $50m+ of Series B. The postings run from research chemists to software and robotics engineers, which is the unusual part.
