We are currently looking for a Senior Satellite Mission Engineer to join the development of MAGEC, our telecommunications satellite constellation, taking technical responsibility for the end-to-end telecommunications mission, from mission definition through service validation and operational performance assessment.

The selected candidate will contribute to the definition and optimisation of the telecommunications architecture, ensuring consistent performance across satellite payloads, user terminals, gateways and terrestrial networks.

Main responsibilities

Define and maintain end-to-end telecommunications mission requirements and architecture, ensuring technical consistency across all mission segments.

Translate customer needs and service objectives into measurable requirements for coverage, capacity, throughput, latency, availability and Quality of Service (QoS).

Develop and maintain end-to-end link budgets and performance analyses, including coverage, capacity, interference, propagation and service availability.

Evaluate technical trade-offs involving constellation geometry, payload capabilities, spectrum allocation, gateway deployment and terminal performance.

Coordinate with System, Payload, Platform and Ground Segment Engineers to ensure consistent requirements allocation and system integration.

Define telecommunications operational concepts, including connectivity, handovers, traffic routing, resource allocation and service continuity.

Define acceptance criteria and coordinate end-to-end verification, testing and service validation activities.

Assess technical risks, changes and anomalies, contributing to mission performance optimisation and corrective actions.

Required skills, experience and candidate profile

Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering with a telecommunications specialisation, or a related field.

At least 10 years of relevant experience in satellite telecommunications mission engineering, end-to-end system design or service performance engineering for GEO and/or non-GEO systems.

Strong expertise in link budgets, coverage and capacity analysis, interference assessment, propagation modelling and end-to-end performance simulation.

Knowledge of communications payloads, user terminals, gateways, waveforms, modulation and coding, IP networking and Quality of Service (QoS).

Experience in satellite constellation communications, handover strategies, resource allocation and service availability analysis.

Experience translating service needs into technical requirements and coordinating multidisciplinary trade-offs, verification and acceptance activities.

Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or equivalent modelling and simulation tools, as well as requirements management tools.

Strong analytical, technical coordination and communication skills.

Fluent English, both written and spoken. Spanish and other European languages will be valued.

Additional requirements

Nationality of an EU Member State and willingness to undergo the required security clearance process.

Availability to travel within Spain and internationally, primarily within Europe, and to work at supplier or campaign sites when required.

Availability for on-call support during critical end-to-end testing, commissioning and service validation campaigns.

The position is based in Madrid, at our offices in Calle Serrano Galvache 56, with regular presence at CanarySat facilities.

We are looking for curious, creative, tenacious and collaborative people, eager to take on challenging technological projects and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for the space sector.
