Job Overview:

The Director of Bus Apps & AI Architecture leads the Business Applications Architecture & Design organisation across enterprise, solution, AI and data architecture. It sets organisational direction, develops capability and is accountable for coherent architecture decisions and outcomes across the Business Applications portfolio.

Enterprise Applications at Arm refers to applications and platforms supporting enterprise functions like HR, Finance, Commercial, Procurement and Supply Chain.

The role shapes target states, roadmaps, investment and lifecycle decisions, connecting business strategy to delivery and operation. Working with business and technology leaders, this director works in tandem with the Director Eng Platform Architecture on shared foundations and cross-boundary decisions, with each retaining authority for their domain.

Responsibilities:

Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Business Applications architecture organisation of enterprise, principal solution and solution architects, with AI and data architecture leaders. Set priorities and outcomes, manage performance and succession, and build an inclusive, globally effective practice.

Translate business, technology, enterprise AI and data strategies into target architectures, roadmaps and design priorities. Maintain connected capability, process, application, integration and data views for impact analysis, investment and lifecycle choices.

Own the Business Applications Architecture & Design operating model and design authority, with clear decision rights, risk-based engagement paths, proportionate reviews and visible, time-bound exceptions.

Advise senior leaders on portfolio and investment priorities, application and platform direction, operating models, build-buy-reuse choices, technical risk and long-term consequences.

Establish and govern reusable principles, standards, reference architectures, patterns, decision records and lifecycle guidance that reduce duplication, technology sprawl, avoidable delivery effort and vendor dependency.

Assure significant Business Applications and enterprise AI designs from strategy through operation, covering business fit, security, data, integration, resilience, scalability, supportability, observability, cost and retirement. Measure effectiveness through reuse, application health, risk retirement, exception closure and delivery outcomes.

Partner across Business Applications, Security, and with the Director Eng Platform Architecture, to align shared foundations, resolve cross-boundary decisions and maintain clear domain accountability.

Required Skills and Experience:

A record of leading a multidisciplinary Business Applications architecture and design organisation at scale, including enterprise and solution architects, specialist leaders and senior individual contributors.

Experience converting strategic thought and business priorities into group-level Business Applications architecture outcomes, target states, roadmaps, investment choices and measurable change.

Deep business-application architecture experience, with strong understanding of enterprise AI and data architecture and how to work effectively with peer Engineering architecture functions.

Broad architecture knowledge across applications, platforms, integration, APIs and events, cloud, data, identity, security, reliability, service operations and technology lifecycle.

Experience establishing an enabling Business Applications design authority, applying architecture governance proportionately and improving delivery through reusable guidance rather than relying on central approval gates.

Strong people leadership, including setting direction, developing capability, coaching senior professionals, building effective teams and addressing performance or capacity constraints.

The ability to influence executives and peers, challenge assumptions constructively, resolve competing priorities and communicate complex choices in clear business and technical language.

Sound commercial and technical judgement, balancing innovation, enterprise value, risk, cost, sustainability, supportability, vendor dependency and delivery pace.

Experience of designing enterprise architecture across SaaS (SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow etc.) and non-SaaS based platforms for business functions is essential.

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:

Experience leading Business Applications architecture in a complex global engineering organisation.

TOGAF, ArchiMate or equivalent architecture accreditation and modelling experience!

About Arm

Arm designs the processor architecture most of the world's phones and a growing share of its servers run on, and licenses it rather than manufacturing chips itself. Its European engineering is heavily Cambridge — the head office and much the largest cluster here — with smaller teams in Sophia Antipolis, Budapest and Manchester, and the work skews to systems software, ML and embedded rather than application development. Roughly two thirds of its openings are outside Europe, so filter by country before assuming a role is local.
