Now hiring in sunny Barcelona! Amazon employs more than 1.6 million people worldwide, up 24% year-over-year. In all of history, no company this big has ever grown this fast. There are other large employers, some even bigger. There are other fast-growing companies, some even faster. As the engineering org responsible for building systems that help ensure all Amazonians are paid on time and accurately, we are asked to solve for challenges that no other company faces.

Also, we're Amazonian. Our customers in Payroll expect us to innovate for them. We're building a greenfield near real-time payroll platform — replacing decades of legacy infrastructure to process pay end-to-end for over a million employees across 60+ countries. This spans multiple organizations within Amazon integrating into a single canonical architecture, with engineering teams across multiple geographies. Name another company doing this at this scale. We really are having fun and making history in an area that — let's face it — is probably pretty boring at other companies.

Your job will be to lead a world-class software development team in Barcelona — driving the design and delivery of core platform components from architecture through production, and developing the team that ships them.

Key job responsibilities

You will:

- Build and lead a team of software developers.

- Lead teams to build and support software with the highest standards.

- Support career growth for your team members.

- Understand our customers and build a vision to solve their known and unknown problems.

- Build roadmaps, prioritize work, and deliver your commitments.

- Experience in engineering team management

- Experience in engineering

- Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

About Amazon

Amazon hires more engineers in Europe than anyone else on this board, across Dublin, London, Berlin, Madrid, Luxembourg and Gdańsk. The breadth is the point: AWS infrastructure, retail systems, devices and logistics are very different jobs under one name, and team quality varies a lot between them. Worth filtering by role rather than browsing.
